Interview: Alyssa Shelasky of Apron Anxiety

Meet Alyssa Shelasky of Apron Anxiety. Only the sassiest blog in the sphere. Written with honesty and wit, you may replace your bookmark on TAF for one on Apron Anxiety! (But, you better not!) Read Alyssa’s interview here and then follow her on Twitter to keep up with her every day musings!

TAF: What jewelry trends do you hope stay popular this year?

AS: In a way, I’m a minimalist when it comes to accessories, because I don’t wear much and I don’t even have my ears pierced. However when I do wear accessories, I like them on the side of dramatic. I love those bedraggled, oversized scarves you see everywhere now - and long, chunky necklaces.

TAF: What statement piece of jewelry do you think every woman should own?

AS: An outrageously big, beautiful and valuable cocktail ring.

TAF: What is your “go to” piece?

AS: I have a rose-gold bangle that my mom bought me on sale from Barney’s. I don’t intermingle it with anything else. It’s chunky and sexy and always does the trick.

TAF: What is your favorite “Accessories” boutique in your city?

AS: The Brooklyn Flea has the coolest in everything from fashion to furniture, but I must say, J.Crew’s jewelry kicks ass these days.

TAF: So, when you ARE hanging out with the bad boys of Bushwick (yep, the Roberta’s guys) what do you wear? And do you top it off with a

“hipster-esque” accessory?

AS: I wear tight, straight-legged jeans almost every day with a loose, fall-off-the-shoulder tshirt, a long necklace, some warm, huge, heavenly scarf and beat-up boots. I have a good blazer collection…wooly and tweedy ones for the winter. I used to get dressed up a lot and have a decent selection of sexy, stupidly-expensive dresses - but I can’t handle doing that anymore.

A Hippie Chick, Hip, Hip Hip…

I’ve always loved the “hippie” bag. I carried one in high school and then again in college. Of course, at the time, it was paired with Birkenstocks and patchwork dresses. So, when this trend became popular again, I was skeptical it would catch on. Nicole Richie can pull it off- but she could carry a chinese food “to-go” container and it would look chic. But, the trend has stuck and it’s looking totally adorable mixed with tight jeans, ballet flats, blazers, you name it! So, I may be a little late to the party with this post, but for those of you who couldn’t find the one you were looking for OR didn’t know where to look, here are my suggestions.

(From Left to Right)

Dye Patchwork Handbag by Hippie Urban Survival, $28.99

Kingston Carry All by Simone Camille, $1860.00

Wixarikas Shaman Bag by Aida Coronado, $130.00 (style in picture is a different version)

‘Cause I Know It’s Gonna Hurt…

Okay, so I browse Gilt Groupe all the time. Most times, the items I want are in another member’s cart because I’m too slow on the draw getting signed in. This is a skill I must hone sooner rather than later. Last week, I was directed to Gilt by a fella blogger, Meagan (www.lovemaegan.com) when she tweeted about the ongoing sales. Thank God she did! I hadn’t heard of Noir Jewelry before then and so when I clicked on the link… My heart started beating a million miles a minute, this is a smashingly cool and AFFORDABLE line of accessories. Now, it is completely trendy… think pyramids, swords, daggers, beading…. but it’s okay because the average me can afford an arm full of these adorable bangles.

So, I started shopping. Again, most of it was picked through and already being held hostage by other Gilt Shoppers (can’t fault Gilt for picking desirable pieces, right?) but I did find two gems and immediately snatched them up.

The Wrap Around Sword Necklace and Pyramid earrings… LOVE THEM!!!

And, to sweeten the deal, I had referred two friends to Gilt. They both bought something and I received the $25 referral credit. So, I basically paid shipping for my order - this was awesome every way you play it and I plan on wearing this bracelet all day every day.

Check out Noir Jewelry website!
